Gregory Thomas Stephens

Gregory T. Stephens, 54, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 of a stroke in Los Angeles, California.  He was born on September 3, 1971 in Oswego, New York to Richard (Dick) and Patti Stephens. 

 

Greg spent most of his childhood in Sackets Harbor, New York.  Growing up he loved comic books, music and movies.  He excelled in photography, drawing, writing and playing trumpet in the marching band.  Greg graduated from Sackets Harbor Central School in 1989 and went on to attend Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York.  There he continued writing and drawing and picked up a love for the theater.  He graduated in 1993 with a BA in English and Theater.  In 1995 Greg moved to Los Angeles where he lived for most of the next 30 years working as a computer software developer. 

 

Greg had a unique take on life and an incredible wit.  He dove into his interests and loved sharing them with those he considered close.  In all stages of his life, he built tight chosen families.  He peppered them with inside jokes and deeply cherished traditions.  His eyes had an impish sparkle that let you know something ridiculous was about to be said – you knew you were special when you got the joke.  An independent person who loved to travel, Greg once drove the perimeter of the United States solo, stopping to visit everyone he knew along the way.  He also traveled regularly to Europe, especially Scotland, to visit friends.  Greg lived a life exactly for himself yet somehow without an inch of selfishness. 

 

Greg is survived by his parents, Richard and Patti Stephens (Sackets Harbor, NY); his sister, Elizabeth; and her family: Hanif, Amira and Zenobia Abdur-Raheem (Las Vegas, NV).  He will also be deeply missed by countless friends. 

 

In a final act of generosity Greg was an organ and tissue donor and countless others will be able to heal and live longer lives due to these gifts.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to OneLegacy, an organ, eye and tissue donation organization at www.onelegacy.org/wp/giving.
