Eileen Medof

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved mother, Eileen Medof, on August 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Surrounded by the love of her family, Eileen left behind a remarkable legacy of family, friendship, compassion, and a lifetime devoted to caring for others.

 

Eileen grew up in the small town of Coppercliff in Ontario, Canada, where she followed in her mother’s footsteps and pursued a career in nursing. After graduating from nursing school, she made the bold decision to leave Canada and begin a new life in Southern California. With just $250 in her pocket and the promise of a nursing job at the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital in Los Angeles, she set out on an adventure that would shape the rest of her life.

 

Eileen soon moved to Santa Monica and began working at Santa Monica Hospital. It was there that she met Dean Medof, the man who would become her husband. Eileen and Dean married in 1963 and eventually settled in Woodland Hills, California, where they built their home and raised their family.

 

Eileen continued her nursing career at Northridge Hospital, where she became head nurse of the emergency room. After taking a brief respite from nursing, she returned to the profession, first working in a private medical office and later joining Kaiser Permanente in Woodland Hills.

 

During her many years at Kaiser, Eileen became one of the founding nurses of the infusion center. She was particularly skilled at placing PICC lines and became known as one of the most accomplished PICC line nurses on staff. Nursing was more than Eileen’s profession. Caring for people came naturally to her, and throughout her career she brought skill, strength, compassion, and reassurance to countless patients and families.

 

But Eileen’s life was about much more than her career. She loved people, and she filled her life and her home with them. She treasured her many friendships and enjoyed hosting parties, cooking for the people she loved, and gathering with family, friends, and neighbors. Her home was a place where people came together, and some of her happiest times were spent surrounded by those she cared about.

 

Above all, Eileen loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, and the relationships she built throughout her life were among her greatest treasures.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Donald MacPhail and Aline Restoule MacPhail, and her beloved husband, Dean Medof.

 

She is survived by her three children, Michael (Nicole), David (Cynthia), and Deanna (Daniel); her seven grandchildren, Jessica (Tony), Emily, Amanda, Shayna, Kayla, Adam, and Matthew; her two great-grandchildren, Max and Lily; and her brother, Grant.

 

Eileen will be deeply missed, but the life she built, the people she cared for, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely will remain with all who knew and loved her.
